CALLING JMU CLASS OF 2016

rowpuppyrow:

I work for ORL, and we’re trying to make a program specifically designed for sophomores at JMU.  Inbox me your answers to these questions:

What’s the best part of being a sophomore at JMU?

What’s on your sophomore year bucket list?

If you could tell a freshman to do anything during their sophomore year, what would it be?

Thanks fellow dukes :)

Living on a city campus? Explore!

If you’ve been accepted to a college with a city campus, don’t be afraid to get to know the city.

If you’re a freshman, you’re probably going to hear a lot of hype about how dangerous and scary the city is (regardless of the actual crime rates of your area) from other students who came from suburban or rural areas. Don’t let this dissuade you. Heed specific warnings (for example, “there are a lot of muggings on X section of Y street”), but don’t let people convince you that you’ll be in mortal danger if you don’t remain safely on school grounds.

egads!: College textbooks are Expensive. Screw that.

hipdomestic:

Try to avoid getting them from campus. Even if they have an appealing buyback and/or reward program.

Here are my tips for cheap textbooks/required readings for class:

  1. Bulletin Boards on Campus/Past Students of the Class. It’s not always a guarantee they’ll have the edition you need, but you…

This is a summary of college only using two pictures; expensive as hell.

That’s my Sociology “book”. In fact what it is is a piece of paper with codes written on it to allow me to access an electronic version of a book. I was told by my professor that I could not buy any other paperback version, or use another code, so I was left with no option other than buying a piece of paper for over $200. Best part about all this is my professor wrote the books; there’s something hilariously sadistic about that. So I pretty much doled out $200 for a current edition of an online textbook that is no different than an older, paperback edition of the same book for $5; yeah, I checked. My mistake for listening to my professor.

This is why we download.

Spreading this shit like nutella because goddamn textbooks are so expensive.

not necessarily art related but as someone who couldn’t afford their textbooks this semester this is a godsend

Goodnight. I’m going to go cry myself to sleep over this midterm.

Everyone finished with their first week of exams?

If any of you have to give people online surveys (i.e. for a psychology, sociology, etc. class) let me know!

I can publish the link so that you get more varied results without having to go too far out of your way.

SIMILARLY!

If any of you have online webprojects or pieces of art that you did this semester that you want other people to see, let me know and I’ll publish it.

This is for all of us, so if you ave any suggestions or comments, again, let me know!
